Nanotechnological advances within the area of nanophotonic circuits and components could boost the telecommunication market significantly. Optical fibres is one of key areas in photonic and communication. Through expertise and design of these components and fibres on a nanoscale, the Danish industry could increase its market share considerably. Since this is a new area within research and development, there is a great potential for the establishment of new businesses as well as a further positioning of the existing ones. The incorporation of nanotechnology would position the Danish industry on an international level. Lately we have seen the establishment of new small and medium-sized businesses and many of these are looking for more information about the role of nanotechnology within their field.
