Nanotechnology is the ability to work at the atomic, molecular and supramolecular level - that is on a scale from 0,1 to 100 nm – with the intention of designing, producing, manipulating and utilizing materials, components and systems with new physical, chemical and biological functional properties.
These new properties arise due to the smallness of the structures’ scale, and thus can not be achieved by any other means. The integration with other scales of length and scopes of application will often be essential for practical usability.
Nanoscience is about trying to comprehend the fundamental phenomenon, properties and functions on the nanoscale, which are not scalable outside the nanometre domain.
