The Advisory and Funding System for Research and Innovation in Denmark

The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation coordinates all research and innovation policies and most of the funding in Denmark. The two most important institutions are the Danish Council for Independent Research (Det Frie Forskningsråd), which takes care of researcher initiated "curiosity driven" research, and the Danish Councils for Strategic Research (Det Strategiske Forskningsråd), which is responsible for targeted research based on policy initiatives.

In addition, there is also a separate foundation for basic science The Danish National Research Foundation (Danmarks Grundforskningsfond) and The Danish National Advanced Technology Foundation (Højteknologifonden). These two are not agencies as such, and are not included in the organogram. Both foundations are independent, but have been established by governmental acts and the capital has been provided by the Danish government.

Below you will see the English and Danish terms that describe the Danish funding system for research. To all of the different committees you find additional information under the respective links and on the English subsites of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. Almost all calls are provided in English and can be found here.
